Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ¼ brown sugar - packed
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • 1 stick salted butter - frozen
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 egg
  • ⅓ cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Turbinado sugar - optional

  1. Preheat oven to 400F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder and salt together in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Grate frozen butter using the large side of a cheese grater and add to the mixing bowl. Mix in the butter and chocolate chips.
  4. In a separate bowl whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla. Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix until just combined, do not over mix because you will melt the butter
  5. Dust a clean surface with flour and use floured hands to shape the dough into an 8” x 12” rectangle. Cut this rectangle into 12 triangles and arrange them on the baking sheet with a bit of space between each
  6. Sprinkle the tops of each scone with turbinado sugar and bake at 400F for 16-18 minutes. Cool completely and enjoy!
